FreeStyle Libre 2 Plus vs Libre 3 Plus

Libre 2 Plus and Libre 3 Plus both offer up to 15 days of wear, but they differ in sensor size, reader use, and cash price. Before choosing, confirm the exact model on your prescription and the equipment you will use with it.

By Paragon Diabetic Supply. Product information and prices checked September 26, 2026. This comparison covers U.S. products.

What is different between Libre 2 Plus and Libre 3 Plus?

  • Wear time: both sensors last up to 15 days.
  • Size: Libre 3 Plus has a smaller sensor profile than Libre 2 Plus.
  • Readers: Libre 3 Plus uses the FreeStyle Libre 3 reader, which receives readings automatically. Libre 2 Plus uses the FreeStyle Libre 2 reader, which requires scanning to obtain readings.
  • Phone use: both can stream readings to a compatible smartphone. Check the current app, phone, and operating-system requirements.
  • Pump use: both support selected automated insulin delivery systems. Compatibility depends on the exact sensor, pump, and software configuration.

These distinctions are based on Abbott's U.S. comparison guide. Readers are not interchangeable across the two systems. Confirm compatibility with the manufacturers and your care team before switching.

How much does 30 days of sensors cost?

Two 15-day sensors provide up to 30 days when both last their full wear period. At the listed prices, that is $169.98 for two Libre 2 Plus sensors or $179.99 for the Libre 3 Plus two-pack: a $10.01 difference.

This is a sensor-only comparison. It excludes a reader or phone and any other supplies you may need. Thirty days is not every calendar month, and early sensor replacement can change your supply needs. Compare pack sizes and quantities, not just the price of one box. Switching from the standard Libre 2 or Libre 3?

The Plus models are different products from standard Libre 2 and Libre 3. Abbott's U.S. transition guidance says customers moving from those discontinued sensors need a new prescription. Discuss the change with your healthcare professional.
